STUDIO APARTMENT, PHILADELPHIA
PROJECT: RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGN
The second floor of a 150-year-old former rectory, part of an out-of-use cathedral becomes a laboratory for leaning artwork against walls, stacking favorite books to create pedestals, and playing with arrangements of contrasting colors and textures. The apartment, with 15-foot ceilings, grandly arched windows, and ample wall area for an ever-rotating art collection needed to feel cozy and welcoming. This was achieved by crafting smaller arrangements that function separately and work visually within the whole. Furniture was pulled away from the walls, placed on angles and artwork was hung low to create a sense of intimacy and scale.
